Original fabric pull
How often do you change fabric pulls? It seems to be a "thing" with me. I had a perfectly good fabric bundle and a light background picked out for this project with the intention of a quilt for ME! But right before I started cutting, I spotted some aqua fabric I had purchased to make a quilt for my husband's sister, and within minutes I had created a pull for a completely different look.
My SIL complained to me a couple years ago that I had made "everyone in our family" a quilt but not one for her. That is actually not accurate, but the aqua fabric with its dragonflies fits with the Winging It theme, and her favorite color of aqua will be the background.
First block for Winging It
This QAL started April 20 and is hosted by Wendy Sheppard of Ivory Spring. She terms the QAL "Low Demand" with four blocks a week for 8 weeks. The pattern makes a 69 x 79 inch quilt, and I like the options for prints or solids in varied colors for the butterflies. I would like to do one in various black prints for myself! If you want more information about the pattern and/or QAL, just click on the Winging It logo in my sidebar.
No makeup on this one, so you can see bruising from previous MOHS surgeries.
I had successful surgery on Thursday with general anesthesia. The surgeon took skin from a spot right below my right earlobe (beneath the earring in this photo) to graft to the MOHS surgery area on the left side of my nose. I will see the surgeon on Thursday to see how the graft is healing. Most likely I will have a slight "dent" in my nose that will smooth a bit over time.I have had only a few little aches and did not need the pain medication prescribed, but my energy level has been pretty low, so I am giving myself an extra week to complete my To Do Tuesday list!
Goals for the coming week:
1. Winging It first eight blocks
2. APQ Scrappy Celebration Group B blocks
3. RBD blocks catch up

Since I am an aqua lover I approve of your block;) Glad you surgery went well.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the surgery was successful and yes it will take a little time for it to not be noticeable. Glad the healing process is going on though and you will be well. Everything done to our bodies seems to make us move slower now as we get a little older doesn't it
ReplyDeleteHopefully your SIL will be please with the Aqua butterflies. I have some of those quilts in my future too. The ones needed to "make up for not getting one done sooner"!!! LOL. I'm so glad you didn't need the pain meds prescribed. That's always a plus. Bruising and healing is longer it seems for us blue eyed girls. It's looking good!
ReplyDeleteYour butterfly block is beautiful! I’m glad your surgery went smoothly and you’re not in too much pain.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Michelle! My nose was a little sore the first day or two, but now I have no pain at all.
DeleteI love the butterfly pattern, so cute. It's going to be lovely in turquoise and any other color you make it with. I'm glad your surgeries went ok. It's fine to give yourself an extra week for finish your list, quilting is supposed to be fun, not a job! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad your surgery went well, Linda ; giving yourself an extra week and taking things slowly is a great idea. I am sure you will have your strength in no time. I love your butterfly block and the dargonfly fabric is adorable. Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that the surgery was a success and you are recovering well. Beautiful buttlerfly block for your SIL quilt.
ReplyDeleteI often reedit my fabric decisions during the beginning stages of making a quilt. You're not alone! Your butterfly looks great. I'm so sorry you had to have surgery but it's great that these days surgery can be done for cancer. My great-grandmother had face cancer and died from it in 1920. So it's a blessing that researchers and doctors have learned so much. I hope you heal well.
ReplyDeleteIn a previous post, your cat Rosie hiding and making noises for you to find her is adorable. Is she a cuddly cat? My daughter has two who are not--and she wishes they were.
My word Linda that has been quite a journey - especially with that last surgery. Hope you are recovering and so wise to just go easy. I so love that Winging It pattern, I want to make it too, so must get the pattern for a later date!! Love your aqua pull. Its lovely in her pinks too, so many ways to make it.
ReplyDeleteHopefully things will be back to normal soon and no more surgery. Lovely block for the QAL!
ReplyDeleteThat teal does make a stunning butterfly block. Hope your energy level returns soon. You've had a lot of surgeries in a pretty short time frame. Even if they aren't big ones, that can still take it out of you.
ReplyDeleteSo very nice to see you!! And to hear that all is well with this and will be even better with time. Sometimes our bodies and minds need a rest which will no doubt, hasten healing. Your butterfly block is beautiful. I change my mind about fabrics all the time...it's one of those parts of quilting I dither a lot about. If I didn't already have Edya's butterfly pattern already in my stash, I would definitely by sewing this one. You take care now.
ReplyDeleteLove the butterfly block. Healing does take time, so taking it easy for a week is a good thing! Hope you are feeling more like yourself each day!
ReplyDeleteI love that pattern and your butterfly is just perfect. I'm glad the surgery went well and hope you heal quickly. I bet it will fill in and won't be noticeable in a few months.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! I am frequently change my fabric pulls for a quilt. Sometimes multiple time. Then I get to the borders and what I planned often is changed. Many times over the past year, I have removed my borders and remade them because I did not like the choosen fabric. I happen to absolutely love the new aqua background for the Wing It QAL!
ReplyDeleteYou have been dealing with a lot these past few weeks, so if you need to take some downtime, you take what you need. This is all fun and games. It isn't a race. Love this butterfly quilt. Going on my someday list! Good luck and take it easy this week.
Thank you Peggy - it's always nice to hear other quilters express similar traits - lol! I appreciate the encouragement and wise words health-wise.
DeleteI absolutely love this block, Linda. I look forward to the finish. I do love that aqua dragonfly fabric!! It's perfect for this quilt, I think. I am glad you had a successful surgery and pray for complete and quick healing for you! Thanks for linking up with MM. Have a great weekend! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty pull for that sew along. I'm glad you are giving yourself some extra time to get your list tackled. :) Thank you for sharing in Sew & Tell.
ReplyDeleteLinda I can so understand the changing your mind with the fabric pull and the recipient of the quilt. I do it all the time. I love the aqua and am sure your SIL will love these sweet butterfiles. Good to read your surgery went well. Hugs. Thank you for linking with To Do Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteDo you, by any chance, have a photo of the finished quilt?
ReplyDeleteI do not, because I have not finished it! I have it sandwiched and ready to quilt and plan to get it quilted in the next few weeks. Thanks for visiting.
