This is our menu for Thursday
November is moving right along, much to my dismay! Somehow this favorite month of mine always manages to zoom way too quickly.
In spite of spending time every day in my room, I don't have much to show for it. The butterfly quilt for my sister-in-law is still waiting for me to load it up and quilt it. I am still making 16-across blocks for a Christmas quilt. And the Cheyenne blocks are going to become a quilt! I love these blocks so much that I made the decision to buy more of the background fabric, and I've been cutting out more pieces for HSTs and squares.
I finished and framed a little Thanksgiving mug
We have been navigating doctor, dentist, and hair appointments this week. I had four inches cut off my hair yesterday! My hair was well past my shoulders, and I have really enjoyed the ease of long hair, but I needed a change. My hairdresser added layers and it is a wee bit shorter in the back. But I do miss my pony tail!
My dear husband cleaned out the garden, and I will be working prepping it for next spring. We dump all our coffee grounds and vegetable and fruit peels on the garden, and it has really made a difference in the soil. I am expanding the space a little bit for next season.
My heart is heavy this week as I just found out my niece, who had a mastectomy in 2016, has been diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. Debbie is the one for whom I made this prayer quilt in this post on my old blog. She lives in Oklahoma and is not married, but my two nephews and her Mom all live nearby, and they are all very close. She will find out her treatment options on Monday, so I am praying extra hard for her.
I pulled out the wall hanging "Oklahoma Sunset" that I made in 2021
On Thursday, our son and family will drive up from north of Houston, our grandson from Dallas, and our daughter and son-in-law from Frisco, and we will celebrate with the feast listed on the menu above. This is my favorite meal to make, and I look forward to it all year! I will be making and freezing rolls this weekend and make the pies and cookie dough on Wednesday. The Littles will be with their Dad for this holiday, and we will miss them, but it will be kind of nice to have a quieter "adult" visit.
If you celebrate, what are your plans for Thanksgiving?
Your menu for Thursday sounds wonderful, and it sounds great, too, to have so much of the family there, even if the Littles aren't a part of it. Love seeing what you're working on! As long as we enjoy what we're sewing, I don't think it matters how much progress we make. You look wonderful with the shorter hairstyle, and the fall quilt is perfect in that nook! I'm so sorry about your niece, though. I remember that beautiful quilt you made her - I bet it still brings lots of comfort.
ReplyDeleteso sorry about your niece that is just sad, some people just have to keep fighting. Your Thanksgiving sounds great - enjoy the family around you and I know you will be thinking of the little ones that you will see soon, just not for the holiday. All of your sewing looks great.
ReplyDeleteI will join you in praying for your niece. Your new haircut is super cute—I like it! Your thanksgiving menu looks delicious. I am going to my daughter’s in-laws, so I don’t know exactly what we will be having.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the prayers and the kind words. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
DeleteI don’t know why I posted this comment anonymously. I am a goof sometimes……
DeleteLinda, I'm keeping your niece in my prayers. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday!
ReplyDeleteSending warm thoughts and prayers for your neice. Hopefully they caught it early enough so she has lots of good treatment options. Enjoy your Thanksgiving with family. I agree November went way too quickly!
ReplyDeleteSending good thoughts for your neice. I adore your leaf quilt in the last photo. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYour Thanksgiving seems to already be quite organized. It's funny how there's no rule against having those dishes anytime of the year, yet we tend only to put them together on the day set aside just for those foods.
ReplyDeleteAll of the months go by way too quickly if you ask me. I find the passage of time to be quite frightening. I am so sorry to hear about your niece. What horrible news! I hope the family is able to surround her with as much love and positive energy as possible.
ReplyDeleteI really like your hair. It’s been a long time since I had a ponytail, but I really liked having it. After Jim passed away, I cut 12 inches off my hair, and haven’t had the patience to grow it out again. Your mug Crosstitch is adorable. As you know, I have been digging through my craft drawer, pulling out unfinished and half finished projects to work on. I’m really enjoying it, and I get a great sense of satisfaction.
Hi Linda! Oh, I'll add your niece to my prayers. I hope that her doctors lead her to the right path to fight this disease. Your Thanksgiving menu looks wonderful. I hope you enjoy the gathering with your peeps. Your haircut looks lovely! It really suits you, I think. The layers frame your face so nicely. You'll be back to a pony by Spring if you want to be. {{Hugs}} a bunch. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteYour menu looks great. It is funny how it seems that things go in fits and starts. I am sorry to hear about your niece, I will keep her in my prayers. Yup, November is flying by, much too fast.
ReplyDeleteLove all your projects on the go. Looking forward to seeing how you quilt your butterfly quilt. Thanksgiving plans sound fantastic, its a celebration we just don't have. So sorry about you niece, yes cancer sucks.
ReplyDeleteNice haircut. I understand about missing your pony tail, but it can grow back if you really want it. I hope your niece gets encouraging news about treatment options.
ReplyDeleteI am really sorry to hear about Debbie! I wish her all the best and a full recovery. Cancer does suck, big time!
ReplyDeleteEven though it may not feel like much, but you have made good sewing progress in all directions. Your hair looks great, Linda! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! With that menu, how can you not!

I am with you!! This month has gone WAY too fast! Your hair is so cute!! Maybe a tiny pony tail?
ReplyDeleteand I will add Debbie to my prayers too - I am hugging you all from far away - just like the quilt you made her will be adding your love .
Your day sounds like it would be perfect, I hope it was! Prayers to your niece. A guild friend is dealing with lung cancer and a blood clot just developed and it doesn't look good. So sad.
ReplyDeleteThoroughly enjoyed this post, Linda. What a great menu! I'm sure it was much enjoyed by all. You look wonderful and has anyone told you, you have such expressive eyes. Love your mug and also see you are making progress in the sewing room...each stitch moves us closer to a finish. My heartfelt wishes to Debbie...what a challenging experience and time for her. Thankfully family nearby. I don't understand with the millions going into research, we still have not found a cure for this horrible disease that affects so many.
ReplyDeleteYour thanksgiving menu sound tasty and I'm sure it was. Thanksgiving is a reflective time of year. I'm happy for those who come and sad for those who go to the in-laws or have passed away. They are always missed. Your quilting table looks so cheerful. I love the deep colors and contrasts. You look cute with your new haircut. I need to do something with my hair, I have let it get too long. So sorry to hear about your niece.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry to hear the news about your niece. I'll pray for her. I'm sure you are busy getting ready for the family visit, enjoy every minute! Lovely photo of you, by the way!
