Marvin is trying out the baby quilt
As if I did not already feel old enough, my nephew Gary is now a Grandpa, which makes me a great-great aunt! Gary's son Cory and wife Brooklyn are the proud parents of "Ryker", who was born in November 2024.Brooklyn and Cory with Ryker
Little Ryker has 3 given names - Ryker Lennox Gray plus his surname!
Cory and Brooklyn were the recipients of a wedding quilt which I made in 2022. Brooklyn still likes grays and blues and told me her nursery theme was clouds, stars, and moon. I used stash except for the purchase of a bit of Dear Stella Shooting Stars in navy. I did take the liberty of adding in some soft gold/yellow, because after all, the moon is made of cheese!
A big thank-you to Nancy for encouraging words on minky selection - I picked embossed minky in soft gray for the backing. After feeling it, my husband wants all future quilts to be backed with minky!
This quilt measures 48" x 48". I used a petite panto called "Timeless's Stars and Clouds" from Urban Elementz. Although I really like the design for this quilt, I will not buy a petite panto again, because the design is only 5-1/2 inches tall, and I had to roll the quilt frequently on Longmire the Longarm.
Up next up on Longmire is my sister-in-law's butterfly quilt, which was a finished flimsy in October 2023. My SIL has since changed her bedroom from turquoise to pink - lol - but I think she will love it anyway.
On a sad note, my good friend and fellow blogger Nanette has passed away. Nanette was a passionate and kind person who made beautiful quilts. I knew she had health issues, but I was still stunned, as she had posted as recently as February 16. She will be missed. You can find a tribute to her with a really lovely photo right here.

The baby quilt is so sweet and minky is so cuddly. Your SIL will love the quilt, it will look very nice in a pink bedroom. Nanette was a wonderful quilter, her quilts were so perfectly made. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeletequilt turned out great - looks good
ReplyDeletePerfect fabric choices for the baby quilt. Have I just not been paying attention, or do you have a new blog header. I like it!
ReplyDeleteIt was so good to see a blog post from you today! Wait, what? Your nephew is a grandfather. Congratulations to him, but yikes! :-) I love seeing your crafting room with your table, laid out with that gorgeous quilt. Glad to know that you’re still working on things. You need to keep us more up-to-date as you’re able to.
ReplyDeleteThat is an adorable quilt, Linda! I love the soft colors, and the minky backing looks so cuddly. It sounds perfect for the family! And now that I think of it I am a great-great aunt, too - yikes! I didn't know about Nanette - that is very sad.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Linda! The baby quilt is super cute. I've never sewn with minky but it seems to be a popular backing fabric. Is it difficult to work with? Does it make a mess? I am so happy to see a blog post from you :) Even though I stalk you on IG as well!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see you're back to quilting :) That butterfly quilt is bright and lovely and should clash too badly with pink. Did you see Little Penguin quilting's pink & blue start blocks. =D Thanks for sharing in my Sew & Tell party.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to be a great-great aunt! Congratulations! Such a beautiful quilt for Ryker to explore as he begins crawling! Yes! Minky is a wonderful backing! I like flannel as well. What a pretty background for the butterfly quilt! I am so sorry to hear about your friend, Nanette’s passing. Hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteRyker's quilt is adorable. I hadn't heard about Nanette, so sorry to hear.
ReplyDeletethat Quilt is beautiful and i love the backing of it - i can see why your husband would like that. That baby is so cute. My 10 grandkid was born in November also on the 19th. I'm not yet a great gramma but my oldest grandson 22 could make me one although I hope not yet.
ReplyDeleteDelighted to see a post from you! Beautiful quilts, Linda...so happy to see them. Congrats to the family...a sweet little child. I am a great-great aunt but you definitely look too young to be one! Thank you for posting about Nanette. Like you, I am shocked and very sad. She was always kind to me and I will miss her e cards. She was an extraordinary and talented quilter and stitcher. What a loss for Clay.
ReplyDeleteAww baby Ryker is just gorgeous!! And so is the quilt you made for him!! Well done for using minky on the back - I did that once and I stretched it too much and it was a disaster!!! Thanks for joining in on Monday This and That and so glad to see you sewing again!! xx
ReplyDeleteA wonderful baby quilt! I have yet to try minky for a back, too scared! I can't believe that about Nanette. Sorry to hear.
ReplyDeleteVery cute baby quilt, perfect for a little guy. Congrats on the new addition to the family. That butterfly quilt is just stunning. Hopefully you've been able to make some progress on it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats and a beautiful quilt! I haven't put minky on anything...yet. I need to try it out I guess! Sorry about the loss of your friend. Life is so fragile--the older I get the more I feel it for sure.
ReplyDeleteHi and thanks! Blogger is so quirky sometimes shows folks as "Anonymous", so I'm sorry I can't email you "in person".
DeleteRyker is adorable and your quilt is fabulous. 5 1/2" is a little small for a pantograph. I have started doing baby quilts with flannel and really like that. I will try minky one of these days....when I make some space in my studio. So sorry about the loss of Nanette; may her memory be a blessing to you.
ReplyDeleteThat is one cute baby quilt! Sorry too for the loss of your friend. She is already missed by many.--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteThank you so much TerryK!

DeleteI found you through your post on another blog. I'm happy to see your quilts. I too will miss Nanette. Her work looked fabulous and I liked much of her commentary. I always checked on her blog. My sympathy, I will miss her too.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I'm late to this party, Linda! But so glad to arrive. Your baby quilt for Ryker is adorable!!! And Ryker is absolutely adorable!!! Yes, minkee is addicting!!! Haha! I'm glad you jumped in and tried it. Did you roll your quilt after every 5 1/2" row? Can you do two rows before rolling? Your butterfly quilt is adorable!!! How's the quilting going? Now, I was shocked to hear about Nanette. She was an amazing quilter and a good blogger friend. I'll miss her, too.
